In a report issued by the DMA a few years ago over three-fourths of the membership of the list council of the DMA provided data on the proportion of total company income represented by list rental income. It was revealed that about 4%-6% of total company income for Catalog houses, Businesses, Industrial mailers, Financial mailers, Publishers and Fundraisers comes from list rental income. In other words between half and one-third of net profit comes from list rental all by itself.

Therefore if you put your house list of 20,000 names on the market, you can make an additional US$20,000 to US$60,000 in income per year with virtually no extra work on your part. This figure will change when you work with local lists on a country-by-country basis. Not marketing your list means you leave an extra $50,000 to US$100,000 in profit on the table every year and walk away with nothing.
